• No it will not effect the sound, sound comes out from two sides of the speaker, the front and back

• Hello Ben, it will affect how the sound bounces off the walls or items in the room, but that can all be set as per personal preferences. If you prefer it to be placed vertically, then that is okay for the speaker. We hope you are enjoying the Emberton.
