Please try again later.First, if your old dishwasher was hard wired, it may need to have an electrician or the installers put in a Ground Fault outlet (GFI) for the new one and they will supply the chord for that (may be an extra cost). Depending on the city or state you live in, the codes have changed! In Massachusetts for example, you have to have this done to meet the Mass Electrical Code requirements. If, in your state, it allows for the owner to do his/her own wiring, then, you can DIY. Just make sure you know what your doing! I know what I'm doing (I'm an HVAC Tech/Instructor) but couldn't be bothered so I allowed the installers to do their thing. That being said, I had to "clean it up" a bit as the wiring was sloppy. I also inspected their wiring at the outlet which was fine. If you bought the unit already and need a power cord, make sure you buy the proper electrical rated cord. BUT, I would simply go to the wherever you bought it and ask what it is you need to complete installation. This will help you decide whether to have them do the install. Keep in mind, their are also plumbing codes that sometimes are a factor depending on if the codes have changed. I was fortunate this wasn't a factor. Hey, sometimes its worth the $150 or so to rid the headache and keep you from going down that rabbit hole you maybe headed for.
