• It must have a 3 prong cord because when we had ours installed there was no need to shut off the electricity.

• I think i used the 3 prong power cord from the dishwasher i replaced. No, it does not need to be hardwired. You can buy a dishwasher install kit from best buy or home depot or any hardware store and it comes with a 3 prong power cord.
