“The info on this washer says it is not HE. Doesn’t a front loader without an agitator have to be HE? Otherwise that’s a lot of water going into the clothes for no reason, isn’t it?”

The washer is HE and the detergent tray tells you to only use HE detergent. Probably a misprint on the website... I absolutely recommend this washer/dryer combo though! It is absolutely amazing. Washes clothes perfectly, quiet, great features, steam dryer is fantastic! It’s worth paying a little more for this model!
