Take on heavy loads and tough stains with this Maytag front-load washer. The 4.5-cubic-foot capacity provides enough space to wash 29 towels in one cycle, and it has the extra cleaning muscle of the PowerWash system and a steam option. The Fresh Hold option on this Maytag front-load washer keeps clothes ventilated until ready to put them in the dryer.
Q: Will this machine get a king size comforter clean?
A: Yes...it does! The second load I did was a king size comforter and it came out great!
A: All front loading washer doors must be left open after the cycle so that they can dry out. I haven't had a mildew smell issue, but I can see how it could become a problem. I do try to wipe the extra moisture from around the rubber door gasket. There is a lot of water left in the soap dispenser drawer after the cycle is finished also. I'm not sure why...but have read that it is a problem.
Q: Does this maytag have an option to add laundry once the machine is started?
A: Yes, you can add for a certain amount of time at the beginning of the cycle. There is a light that will go off when you can no longer add items
Q: Does this machine come with the drain and fill hoses?
A: The washer does not come with hoses. I recommend stainless steel ones. Also, if you are going to buy the matching dryer with the steam option, you will need to buy another hose. The dryer comes with a 2' hose that connects to your cold water source and a "Y" splitter (one side connects to your waster and the other to your dryer). The hose that connects to the "Y" splitter and dryer is not provided. Check installation instructions at: http://www.maytag.com/digitalassets/MED5500FW/Installation%20Instruction_EN.pdf
Q: What side are the door hinges on, left or right? Is this an American made washer?
A: The door hinges are located on the left hand side.
A: Dianas, model MHW8200FC has an overnight wash & dry cycle while Model MHW5500FC does not. MHW8200FC has 3 soil selections while MHW5500FC has 5 soil selections. We hope this helps!
A: The washer is designed for HE detergent pods and in fact states in primary pamphlet that designed for HE detergent only. There is an accompanying Secondary HE detergent pamphlet.
A: My measure from back to front is 30 inches. BUT, allowing for plumbing connections at the rear, the front of the washer is 35 inches from the wall. This is exactly the same depth as my old drier. Not sure it will fit properly in that shallow a closet.
