• Works fine. Have amplified splitter and run five converters, two mediasonics. All work fine, some decode signal better than others depending on the channel.

• I'm not in Southern California, but this does not work with any "cable" system. It is for Over The Air broadcasts and works fabulously. I use an indoor antenna taped to an exterior wall in a closet with an 11 dB amp. I split the coax signal before the TV so that I can watch one channel, while using this to record (on a Thumb drive) a second show.
