Yes, you can adjust the volume of the headphones with the control on the earpiece independent of the TV volume. You can listen with the headphones at a louder volume while the other people can listen through the TV speakers at a lower volume.

The sound will continue to be heard in the earphones and the volume can be adjusted up or down to suit you. We have two (2) sets. One in family room, the other in bedroom. My wife and I use them in separate room or in the same room together. Just pair them to the unit in the room of your choice.
