• I would suggest buying a new one because if you buy it used you never know how long the battery will last

• I considered refurbished but, I decided to go new. It was just a preference at the time. I guess it the real factor is budget. Not sure if I helped but those are my thoughts. I hope your friend enjoy their Quest from an awesome friend.
