There are a number of free and demo games available, but you will need to choose them yourself from the store (they aren't pre-loaded by Oculus).

There is a "First Steps" which is mostly to familiarize someone with VR but I've watched people play it for hours after they become fascinated with just trying VR for the first time. There are a dozens of free apps and games that you can download if you connect to WiFi and that number raises to the hundreds if you install Virtual Desktop app and SideQuest. But right out of the box, yes there are a few apps/games you can mess around with.
