“I have a 2005 mercury grand marquis. It has the two harness connections. Do i HAVE to use them amp harness or can i buy the harness for the radio alone?”

You can buy just the basic radio harness, but the subwoofer will not work. If you choose to add the subwoofer later, you will have to buy the whole harness, as the subwoofer wire connector is not usually sold separately. (Note, it's possible to wire the subwoofer connection to an RCA jack, but you would have to cut the factory wiring.)
