It depends what programs you will run on the Surface Laptop. If you are using it for light web browsing, email and occasional streaming, the M3 should be fine. If you are using more processor intensive software to assist you in your studies, it makes the most sense to look at the minimum and recommended specifications of that software on the third-party software manufacture's website. Then, choose the processor that meets those needs.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I'm a student. Do not get the M3. The M3 is being phased out per MS. I just bought an M3 to replace my surface pro 2 i5 after 4 years of use. The surface pro 2 was significantly faster. Even with light use, the M3 processor lags in load times, and isn't able to maintain internet connectivity let's say in a high traffic internet area i.e. library. I will never go below an i5.
