• No. No online subscription is needed to play the regular franchise mode. If he wants to play online versus other people an Xbox Live Gold Membership is needed.

• Yes buy it for him! Make him a happy lad! We only get one chance at being Mom/Dad!!! He will love it! Its best to buy the $60/12 month subscription from best buy and not the 3 month for $25 junk xbox trys to sell you over their system!!!
