The T31 is a low wattage radio that averages a 1/2 mile. Extreme ranges can be reached in the perfect conditions such as over water or mountain top to mountain top. A 5-watt radio which is the highest wattage the FCC allows for handhelds. A general rule around range is 1 mile per watt. Midland does have a 5-watt radio. It is the GXT67.
