You can potentially skip the pre-order step and buy it in store now if you haven't gotten a copy for the kid already. I found the game on the shelf in store and bought a copy for my little brother. Assuming your grandson likes multi player games (because Minecraft is just short of the sandbox shared at a playground, but cleaner) I also added a recommendation for you to look at.
