“Our coaxial system has a two port splitter buried somewhere in the wall, it was installed before I owned the home.Does this eliminate the possibility of using this product? If it is OK, can multiple receivers be used on the same network?”

The frequency range of the splitter will determine if you can use the system or not. If it does not filter frequencies above 1k you will be good to go. Unfortunately if you can't see the splitter, the only real way of finding out is to install and see if it works. If it does work, you can have multiple receivers - I have a total of four devices on my network and it works great!
