yes, but only when ambient is set to "ON". otherwise, just set ambient to off, and the watch face will only display when it senses you 'flicking" your wrist to check the time (it's motion sensitive, similar to the Moto X phone).

Always on is optional - it's called ambient mode. IT drains the battery a bit faster of course, say 1/3 faster, but it's totally functional using the right watch face.

Yes. There is a setting that allows you to have it always on or have it turn off when not in use. Always on reduces the battery life somewhat.

There are a couple of display settings you can choose from. Just keep in mind, the longer the screen is on, the more of an impact it's going to have on battery life.

It does not, it has the ambient light sensor, what it does is that after a few seconds it dims the screen a little bit to preserve energy, then it turns off, the good thing is that with a little movement it comes back on. I was hoping it has the screen on the whole time, but it won't bother you at all, with the new updates even with this sensor on, battery life is really good

Sort of... It has an ambient mode, which turns the ambient watch face on whenever the watch is in motion (not-just-the-rotating-my-wrist-to-look-at the-time motion), any motion will activate this, but it does not always stay on, times out after no motion in about 3-5 seconds. Perhaps in a future update....

It can, but it is not advised due to battery concerns. The recommended setting turns the face off when it is not in viewing position...

No, but you can set it up so it is on most of the time, however it will drain the battery quicker. Still should get you through the day though.

No. When you bring your wrist up to look at the time, it turns the screen off after 5 seconds. When you are checking messages, etc. It stays on longer though

This depends on the build. It seems that the build loaded on the one sold at BestBuy has this option. The one loaded on the watch sold direct by Motorola does not have the option to keep the face on (Ambient mode) but has several more watch faces.

Kinda, it has an option in the settings where you can turn on ambient screen, which will drain the battery a bit more, now it doesn't stay on all the time it times out in about 5 minutes but every time you activate the display by turning your wrist towards your face it will turn on and stay on for another 5 minutes I'm sure Motorola did this mainly so they could conserve battery life while customers are using the Moto 360
