• It is corning gorilla glass. But it is "glass". I wouldn't want anything to happen to it. Tempered glass protectors are cheaper than repairs.

• The screen is Corning Gorilla Glass 3. I do not use a screen protector and my phones are fine. They may develop micro scratches over time, but these are not really noticeable when using the phone and only visible if the screen is off and using the screen like a mirror to try to see micro-scratches. I see no need for a screen protector.
