A:AnswerThis is what I researched yesterday: It is only legal to operate the GMRS channels if you have a license from the FCC. (GMRS channels output higher wattage than FRS channels). I applied on the FCC website yesterday afternoon and received my license via email this morning. In order to save you some time, you need to apply for a ZA - General Mobile Radio (GMRS) license. It took me a while to figure out ZA was the one you need out of the multiple options available. The license is only $70 for 5 years.
I am not sure I understand your second question, but this radio will communicate on all channels, both FRS and GMRS.
