I personally have not noticed any throttling. The most demanding game I have is Star Wars Battlefront 2 and I have had no problems running it on high.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I recommend undervolting using throttle stop. I pulled mine down to -.145 and it not only runs about 10 degrees cooler under load but it also increased the performance of the CPU but a few % as well. I never see any speed throttling and its running like a champ on roids. Not to mention it is completely safe to undervolt your CPU.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you really have it pegged to 100% I've seen it throttle back 10-15% after prolonged use. Some people have re-pasted it to get better results but ultimately you will pay for the size of this machine with some performance hits. That's a tradeoff to get "thin and light." So yes, in some very high end games you might see throttling but most games you probably wont. The laptop is pretty good at venting heat. Alienware 17R5 is a massive laptop and will definitely perform with less throttling problems but you'll pay for it in size and weight. Depends on where your priorities lie. Personally I travel with it and size mattered more to me than perfect performance.
