The Black metal plate works as Heatsink for the DDR RAM, not many manufacturers provide such heatsink for ram now days and I'm totally happy MSI with the GP series provide such little piece of hardware, But yeah, makes it tricky to get there and upgrade the RAM but in the other hand you have a free RAM heatsink.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Thanks Geno, but the laptop takes DDR5 4800 memory. I was able to figure out the issue. MSI for some reason placed a black metal box over the memory and you have to pop it off, something I've never seen before. The most current make of this laptop supports DDR5 memory, and I have 64GB of memory installed that works perfectly. D-
