I’m assuming you’re referring to NBA 2K21 Next Gen. The answer is yes, it is compatible with the Series X, infact, it is optimized for the console. Also, don’t throw away your sons old games just yet (if he played on the Xbox One before) , as the Xbox Series X is fully backwards compatible (meaning you can still play games from previous generations and it will run just fine).

Buy the digital version from the Microsoft store or make sure to buy the “DIGITAL@ version of this game on BestBuy which includes the code.
