I did a bunch of research before buying the google nest mini 2nd gen, so here’s my take. I already have 3 gen 1 minis in my home, and have even gifted a few. I can positively say that the 2nd gen is MUCH better. It’s a lot more sensitive to “hey google,” so much so that I’ve tried mumbling and muffling my voice just to test it and it worked! There is a mute button on the 2nd gen that comes in handy. It also has a little spot on the underside that lets you hang it up instead of leaving it on a table- this furthers its ability to hear you better.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Slightly better speaker, different power connector, small hook on the back to wall mount, lights on either side where you can tap to adjust the volume, there may be other things but I’m not sure.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The speaker is larger in the gen 2 so it sounds better if you use to stream music. Voice sounds no different between the two. There is also some additional Google Assistant protocol included in the gen 2 but no idea what it provides over the gen 1.
