Nest Wifi mesh system replaces your current router by directly connecting to the modem's WAN port with an Ethernet cable as your primary router. After setting up the primary router, the points can be set up and connected wireless. You can place one upstairs, one close to the edge of your home to extend it outside, but we don't recommend placing them more than 2 rooms away from the primary router.
