• No, you do not. Your provider can do it by sending a remote signal.

• You need to hardwire into the modem from your computer. Your ISP will need to be involved in order for the modem to be activated.

• Unless I missed on of the features, I believe this product is just the modem ( I use a separate Netgear for my router) When I was working with my ISP I didn't need to connect to the modem with a laptop at all. They initialized the connection and then my hardware did the rest.

• this is just a modem - not a router. you dont need a computer to set it up but it at least an ipad would make it easier
