If you want wifi you will need a router to go with your Modem. Just connect ethernet from your modem to router. I have spectrum but opted to use my own equipment.

This modem does not have WiFi built in. You will need a separate WiFi router to offer WiFi in your home.

And yes, this modem will negate needing to rent a modem from Comcast.
