firestick works on wifi so as long as you have any kind of wifi signal your firestick will connect.

It will work with your firestick gen 1 or 2. If you a gen 2 firestick you'll appreciate the faster speed that the 5mhz band offers for the the wifi a/c mode that this router will give you. 
You do need an internet provider to, uh, provide you the internet service. I'm sorry I don't know any other way of saying it. The router will route your internet traffic from your modem (you'll need one of those too (sold separately)) to your home network. If you need more information talk to a salesperson at the store.
