My understanding is that a Wi-Fi signal travels upwards better than it does going downwards. I know a little more than most folks but I don't consider myself an expert. I'm just another user/customer like everyone else except for the fact that I purchased my first computer before Microsoft and Windows even existed. You may want too seek a second opinion because my recommendation is to try moving your router to a location lower to the ground floor so the signal travels upwards to your devices. If that's not possible then I'll tell you that I did solve a similar situation by installing Netgear's Night Hawk router on the upper floor. It provided downstairs coverage in a home with concrete interior walls that blocked the signal coming from the equipment the internet provder installed. It was a major improvement that even allowed access outside.
