• Yes, the dongle can be used in a room different then where the modem is.

• Yes you can as long as you have good signal. I would stay away from 2.4Ghz as it's used by a lot of devices.

• I use one of these adaptors at work. I am about 50 ft from the router and it works well, the signal goes through 2 walls to get to my desk.
