As long as you have the password to get on the network, this should work fine.

No, this is nothing more than a WI FI device to connect wirelessly to the internet. Once installed you will connect the exact same way you would if your computer already had WIFI capabiity built in just like laptops. Just make sure your computer meets all the compatibility requirements for the WIFI adapter.
