This adapter is used to connect to your wireless access point which is providing your connection to the Internet. If you have your own access point in the "boonies", providing Internet access, then likely this adapter can connect to it. There needs to be an access point for this adapter to connect to. Most likely in the "boonies" there is no access point for you to connect to to get onto the Internet.

For best service look up mobile hot spot gear. The key though is your provider. Check out their coverage map to see if they cover the areas you are going to. Frequently a local carrier will provide more effective service than a big name group.
