“My wifi chip in my laptop is damaged and will not pick up my wifi. If I buy this will I be able to connect my laptop wirelessly without the Ethernet cord?”

Yes you can but I would not recommend this item go with a different brand like Cysco, Linksys, ASUS but not Netgear

Yes you will. You can even disable your non-functioning device in the BIOS so there wouldn't be an issues in the event it started to work at some point. When I set mine up I did have a little trouble with the driver in Windows 10 but a quick internet search had that fixed in no time. If this happens to you then be around someone that can search for the error you get.
