“Can I run an ethernet cable from my main router to this extender to ensure it obtains the best speeds. Has anyone else done this and if so, do you get similar speeds compared to your original router?”

There should be a port at the bottom of the extender for an Ethernet cable. There are instructions on how to do it wirelessly through a device and to use an Ethernet cable for set up.
