This is not the best use for the Nighthawk Range Extender. You would be better served by the N600 or N900 Dual Band routers. Or the more economical Linksys N750 for providing 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz wireless coverage.

This device is wireless. Plug it in and a simple setup and your good to go.

No this has to connect to your already existing router.
