• it does not have a provision for the phone. further, I had to return mine because optimum does not allow residential customers to have modems that have 24x8 channels. the agent i spoke to said they only activate 16x4 and lower

• Verify with your current provider to see if it's compatible. As for router being upstairs and getting signal downstairs, no problem. I get plenty of signal downstairs and my router is upstairs.
