Some use metal studs which can cause issues, also depends how many walls between the rooms. I've got a 3000sq ft home and my cable modem and router are in the front corner of the house. The far back corner of the house always got the poor leftover wifi that actually made it that far. I plugged this in my living room... about halfway between the two ends and I now have high speed wifi not only in the back corner, but actually half way across my back yard. This thing is a hoss! You can also give it a separate SSID if you wanted to have a different network in the house... maybe one is for guest and the other is for only you. :) . enjoy!
