I can't tell you about the compatibility of the modem, however I can tell you that I have a 2000 sq ft ranch and this setup works very well. I do not think you need the Orbi AC3000.

If you're finding that your existing modem/router isn't doing well (especially in areas that are difficult to cover) Orbi may be the solution for you. What makes it different is the mesh network with satellites that can be placed throughout the home for the best coverage.
