You don't have to use FiOS r router for wifi. I just connect my night hawk router via Ethernet to my FiOS router. Log in to FiOS router and turn off their wifi and use wifi on the better router instead. Thus goes for any better router not just orbi. I have used this setup for years. FiOS tries to sell you a better router for a monthly fee when all you need to do is hook up your own and turn off their wifi on theirs and only use their for hard wired routing.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have FIOS and you can replace the Verizon FIOS router with the Orbi. You need a couple of things and you lose some features: 1) you need Verizon to come out and change you ONT from COAX / MOAC to Ethernet Cat5e this will allow you to connect the Orbi WAN port to directly to FIOS (See photos one shows the ONT / MOAC / Ethernet, the other shows a network diagram of the your config looks like now - the line labelled coax is what we you are asking to be changed and before the actiontech will go the Orbi router) 2) you'll more than likely need to call support and give them the MAC address from the Orbi router so they won't block it's use on their FIOS network 3) you will lose VOD / PPV services for any set top box..... The way to get around this is to keep the verizon router: - Connect the Orbi via the WAN port to the ONT, - Then connect the verizon router into one of the NON-WAN labelled ports on the Orbi base router - make sure that verizon router is also connected via COAX just like all your set-top boxes (the set tops talk over the COAX so the verizon router will talk to the set tops and router this over the ethernet connection via the Orbi). This is only to allow for the PPV / VOD / Guide so turn off the wifi on the verizon router you won't use it for internet traffic only cable traffic The FIOS tech should understand this setup and help you get it going.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I use it with Fios and as one post said, disbale the wifi on your fios router and use the Orbi in AP mode. This way your on demand, dvr, and guide will work properly. It will keep any port forwards you have in tact.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, you can place the Orbi in AP mode and connect it via Ethernet cable to your existing Gateway/Router. Be sure to turn off the wireless in the Fios Router as well. Let the Orbi handle the wireless. Netgear has an article explaining this exact scenario. Search for "How do I set up my Orbi system to work with Fios"
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I am currently using FIOS and have been for years. When I first moved into my new townhome, I had to sign up for new service. When I did, I already had FIOS at my parents house which I was living in and I knew that Orbi router's are dependable and fast. After moving to a 3 story townhouse ~1780sq ft, I called Verizon FIOS to come setup new service for me and when the service guy got here I told him that I wanted to use my own Orbi router since I knew it could be used as a bridge at my parents house. Rather than renting their router and then having the Orbi router and two WIFI names, I had the FIOS guy connect the box he installed to my main Orbi Router. He said it was possible and it's been working perfectly. I haven't had any problems although when you call in for new service, the salereps otp will attempt to sell you or rent you a FIOS router bc it creates extra revenue. Buy the router first, call FIOS and tell them you want new service, when the guy comes tell them you have an Orbi and they'll help you set it up bc they get paid by the job they do and not the devices that they sell. That's what I did and I bought our house almost a year ago. I pay for 200/200mbps for $39.99/month and I consistently get over 300/300mbps speeds on FIOS.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Check to see if you can bridge the router gateway to essentially shut off the wifi it broadcasts and use only the modem. Try looks me up You Tube videos of how to bridge your model. I have similar set up through Xfinity, I was able to find instructions on how to do this and I have been using my own router for several years now since their equipment is not quite up to par. This system is awesome though.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It actually is possible to replace their router for internet service if you have them enable the ethernet port on the ONT instead of the coax connection. If you google "fios ont switch to ethernet" you will find sites with instructions on how to contact Verizon and have that changed.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Orbi system is strictly a router that connects to a gateway/modem via an Ethernet cable and then wirelessly to an Orbi satellite to create a mesh network. It is not designed to work as a (gateway) modem on its own.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You must keep your existing modem connected to your Internet service. You just turn off the Wireless feature of your current modem and run a cable from your Modem to Orbi.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you have TV service with verizon you have to use their router for the guide and on demand, but you could use it on the back side through the action tech.
