• By Wifi. It uses one of the 5ghz bands to backhaul to the base router.

• Both devices do need to be plugged in for basic power purposes; however, the satellite connects via a dedicated WiFi connection to the Orbi router.

• It uses the Wifi. The third band is what makes it faster than other systems.

• Let me qualify my answer by saying I am no expert but from what I understand the main unit uses a signal separate from the wifi to communicate with the satellite. I know it does not use your electrical lines.
