The package comes with 2 units: 1 main router unit and 1 satellite unit (the "extender"). The router is connected to your cable modem via a standard ethernet wire. The satellite connects wirelessly to the router. Both units have a power adapter to connect to a power outiet.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Only the base unit needs to be connected to the Internet. The base and the satellite units connect wirelessly.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Only the router itself is connected to your modem via Ethernet cable. The satellite connects to the router wirelessly to form a Tri-Band WiFi mesh network. The Ethernet ports located on the satellite are strictly for plugging in wired devices.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. One does in fact work as a range extender. One will be labelled as a Satellite and that is your "Range Extender" the other is the router itself. During the setup process it picks up on the Satellite.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The router portion is connected to your modem via an Ethernet cable, but the satellite / extender unit links up to the router wirelessly. The only wire that you need to have connected to the extender is the power cord.
