HI Mike,

The camera does not record continuously when the car's ignition is off. It will only record when it feels a bump or impact. You can use the Nextbase Hardwire Kit to connect the camera to your car's fuse box. There is circuitry that prevents the camera from fully draining your car's battery. The field of view on the front camera is 140 degrees, so if you want to capture the sides of the vehicle I'd recommend the rear camera attachment that films the interior of the vehicle as that would also capture to the sides and rear.

The Series 2 Cameras have an internal lithium ion battery for emergency uses, such as the loss of power during an incident. This will allow the camera to continue recording to the end of the clip before switching off.

If you intend on using Parking Mode on your camera, then we'd instead recommend using a Hard Wire Kit, not the Cigarette Lighter Cable. The Hard Wire Kit will allow the camera to draw nominal current from the car's battery, preventing the cam's battery from being drained. The Hard Wire Kit has an in-built voltage cut off which protects the car's battery from being drained below 11.2V. We'd recommend using a Permanent Live fuse with Parking Mode enabled.

For Parking Mode, if the camera is completely still for five minutes (the car is parked), then the camera will 'hibernate' in Parking Mode.

If your car is bumped and the G Force sensor registers movement then the dash cam will automatically turn on, record for 30 seconds and then shut back down again. If you are unlucky enough to be hit twice in a row then the dash cam would automatically record again and capture both events.

It has a parking mode, but must be hard-wired to allow for its use. There is no available battery pack for the device aside from some 3rd party thing you can plug it in to overnight.

You can purchase an accessory camera (rear-facing), but does not automatically record to the sides anything beyond the standard field-of-view.

It records while plugged in and it does have an option for auto shut off, but will drain your battery. Camera itself has a back up battery but not sure on how long it will last.
