9-Channel Viewing This DVR is expandable up to 12 channels total. You can absolutely configure and monitor fewer than 12 channels — including 9 channels — as long as you have 9 cameras connected. On your TV/monitor or in the Night Owl Protect App, you can select different split-screen views (e.g., 1, 4, 8, 9, or 12 camera layouts). So yes, a 9-channel configuration is supported. Power / Wattage Use The DVR itself typically uses about 10–15 watts while running (similar to a small cable box). Each wired 2K camera generally consumes about 4–5 watts. With 8 cameras connected, total system usage would be around 40–55 watts for the cameras + 10–15 watts for the DVR = ~50–70 watts total under normal operation.
