    • Answer 9-Channel Viewing This DVR is expandable up to 12 channels total. You can absolutely configure and monitor fewer than 12 channels — including 9 channels — as long as you have 9 cameras connected. On your TV/monitor or in the Night Owl Protect App, you can select different split-screen views (e.g., 1, 4, 8, 9, or 12 camera layouts). So yes, a 9-channel configuration is supported. Power / Wattage Use The DVR itself typically uses about 10–15 watts while running (similar to a small cable box). Each wired 2K camera generally consumes about 4–5 watts. With 8 cameras connected, total system usage would be around 40–55 watts for the cameras + 10–15 watts for the DVR = ~50–70 watts total under normal operation.

    • Answer Yes, the cameras will detect and record motion from wildlife if motion detection is set to “general.” In this case, you’ll also receive a notification through the Night Owl Protect App when movement is detected. If you’d like to limit alerts to only people or vehicles, you can adjust the motion settings in the app to reduce notifications while still recording all activity. If your current cables carry both video and power (coaxial with a power lead), you should be able to connect Night Owl cameras to the existing wiring without needing to rewire your home.   • QuestionIf power goes out will it still record and for how long

    • Answer If the power goes out, the system will pause recording and then automatically resume once power is restored. To keep recording during an outage, you can connect the DVR and cameras to an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), which can provide backup power for a period of time depending on the unit.   • QuestionI'm renovating a house that I do not live at, therefore there's no wifi. if I set these cameras up can I just download what's on the box in the event if a break in?

    • Answer Yes, this system records to the DVR’s hard drive even without Wi-Fi. If an incident occurs, you can connect a monitor directly to the DVR to export the recordings to a USB drive for review. Wi-Fi is only required if you want to view footage remotely through the app.

    • Answer Warranty: NIGHT OWL, LLC (“Night Owl”) provides the following warranty to the original retail purchaser only (the “Purchaser”) with respect to this product (the “Product”): For a period of one (1) year after the date of sale, the Product shall be free from manufacturing defects in material and workmanship. Product registration may be required to submit a warranty claim. In the event that the Product is defective, the Purchaser must i) contact Night Owl’s Technical Support Team, ii) provide Night Owl with the proof of purchase showing the product is still under warranty and was purchased from Night Owl directly or an Authorized Reseller and iii) return the Product to Night Owl. In its sole discretion, Night Owl will either repair or replace the Product at no additional cost to the Purchaser. Any replacement Product (or parts) will be covered by the same warranty as the original Product through the expiration date of the original warranty period.
