Thank you for the question and happy to help. This camera is an 'add-on camera' which denotes it being used to add coverage to a Night Owl system. For standalone coverage you would want to look to one of these items (Indoor/Outdoor A/C powered Wi-Fi 4K stand alone camera CAM-WNIP8LBU, or Indoor A/C/ powered Wi-Fi 1080p stand alone camera CAM-FWIP2-IN). Both would allow you to record without any subscription either locally on SD w app (CAM-WNIP8LBU), or via app (CAM-FWIP2-IN). Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
