A:AnswerAccording to a photography discussion site:
The D90 cannot control the aperture on an E lens (like the 200-500); the aperture will always be an f/5.6. Everything else works fine.

A:AnswerThe lens is long as it has the ability to zoom from 300-600. It has the expected weight of a telephoto lens which is heavier than my 70-200 telephoto lens........ it is not light but has a purposeful attachment which allows it to be mounted to a tripod. With this being said, it is an awesome lens that works well with my Nikon. I do not have an issue holding the lens in my hand.
A:AnswerYes it will. Be careful though, lots of bad copies out there that are not sharp. I have to return mine to best buy, it is off. They shipped it poorly, no packing material in box. Make sure you test it thoroughly. The star chart pdf is one way to check the centering of the elements, mine was off big time.
A:AnswerI have a D750 and the lens work excellent however Nikon lens will work with most Nikon camera 's . The 200-500 mmf/5.6 has excellent focus and enhancement of subject. I have had the lens for less that six months and each day have photos I could only achieve with this quality of a lens .
A:AnswerIt is a great lens but you might have two issues photographing action sports with this lens. 1) If you plan to use it indoors or at a dimly-lighted field in the evening, because this camera has relatively narrower aperture, you would need to boost your ISO to compensate. If the zoom-reach is sufficient, a 70-200mm f/2.8 would do much better at low-light. In daylight, you'll love this lens. 2) The lens extends as you zoom-in. At 500mm with hood-on, it is a really long lens. It's no big deal if you have enough space to swing your arms side-to-side following players but if you plan to sit at a crowded stand, you might end up bumping to the spectators around you. Although a prime, nikkor 300mm f/4 pf lens would be easier to use at crowded stands.
A:AnswerNo, the AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR Lens will not work on the Nikon D40. This lens uses a new type of electromagnetic aperture system that the D40 cannot communicate with. For more information on compatibility please contact Nikon Customer Support.
