A:Answer It is a great lens but you might have two issues photographing action sports with this lens. 1) If you plan to use it indoors or at a dimly-lighted field in the evening, because this camera has relatively narrower aperture, you would need to boost your ISO to compensate. If the zoom-reach is sufficient, a 70-200mm f/2.8 would do much better at low-light. In daylight, you'll love this lens. 2) The lens extends as you zoom-in. At 500mm with hood-on, it is a really long lens. It's no big deal if you have enough space to swing your arms side-to-side following players but if you plan to sit at a crowded stand, you might end up bumping to the spectators around you. Although a prime, nikkor 300mm f/4 pf lens would be easier to use at crowded stands.
