It is compatible. This is a full frame lens and the 7000 I is aDX format therefor the lens would effectively be 42-450 lens. They make a dx lens that is 18-300. The lens is great and if you plan to upgrade to a full frame camera, it is well worth it. I have both lens because i own the D7100 and the D850. Another consideration is the 28-300 is heavier than the 18-300. Both give great photos and provide wide angle to telephoto pictures
