"Yes", in terms of capturing *much* more of the scene. "No" in terms of low-light performance and "maybe" in terms of how close you can get to the action. To get the most out of this lens you need good lighting and to be closer to your subject than you think you might. To get better low/indoor light performance (a lens with a larger maximum aperture/smaller f-stop) you have to pay a *lot* more. If you're up in the stands you might end up with some really inclusive shots of the court with a lot of players that are hard to make out. You might be better off with an 18-200 or 18-300 *zoom* lens that would allow you to capture as much or as little of the action as you want at a moment's notice. Good luck!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, not really, The lens does not have the ability to move in and out to areas to take a picture, it is set distance lens. So if you want to take a picture of the team dribbling the ball down the court, unless the player is right in front of you, then your out of luck if they move. Now, if you wanted to take a picture of t he entire team before or after a game as a team photo, this is an excellent lens. See the difference, no movement vs. movement of the object. It will take excellent team photos if everyone is standing still in one place.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It would allow for a faster shutter speed to capture the action without motion blur, however, I would recommend a telephoto lens with a wide aperture. This will allow you to take pictures from the stands with a faster shutter speed and shallow depth of field.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This lens doesn't zoom so will be very difficult to get good action shots. You should look at zoom lenses that reach between 200-300mm. The lower the f number listed will translate to working better in low light options and also has an impact on price. Using a sun $500 zoom lens, you can get great action shots by upping your ISO and getting as fast shutter speed as you can.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Due to it's low aperture the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G lens is super-fast lens and can capture beautifully detailed images, even in low-light situations. This lightweight lens is ideal for a variety of situations and provides stunning bokeh images.
