I've taken many shots for my daughter in the theater and on stage for school choruses. Did great without flash, which of course is not welcomed and can be a distraction when in an auditorium. The camera did not capture movement very well, always fuzzy or a blur.

To compensate it has a high ISO sensitivity, which can cause grain, or noise. Placing it in Auto mode will allow you to set your ISO sensitivity and White Balance options so you have more control over the quality of the image that is taken. You can also set the quality of the image by changing the size and compression ratio that you capture images in. Scene Party/Indoor mode will also allow you to set flash to "Off", so it will not fire during shooting. Another option for dark interior shooting is to place the camera in Scene Sports mode, which allows the camera to get up to 7 images at 7.7 frames per second continuously when you press and hold down the shutter button. Focus, exposure and hue are all determined by the first image taken so make sure to set those options before shooting. In addition, flash is automatically set to "Off" when using Scene Sports mode, you won't have to worry about the flash accidentally firing.
