It uses AA batteries. Per Nikon you should get more pictures than with the previous model which you had to charge.

Compatible batteries for this camera are alkaline LR6/L40 (AA) batteries (four AA) or lithium FR6/L91 (AA) batteries (four AA), which allow for immediate availability for replacement power. For rechargeable batteries that are compatible with this camera model you can use four EN-MH2 Rechargeable Ni-MH (nickel metal hydride) batteries, which are recharged using the Nikon MH-73 Charger.
