The 70-300 lens is a very slow economical lens...great for beginners. Largest opening is 4.5...not that good but still will work well if you learn its limitations. Unless you have very decent light use it on a tripod. If you are going to hand hold it, shoot on P (program) and set your ISO at 800 or higher and hold very still. Practice practice practice.
