It will work with older f-mount nikon lenses. It has a focusing motor for af style lenses built into the body like an older film camera. The D7500 is a DX crop sensor which will multiply full frame (FX) lenses by 1.5. A 35 mm (FX) film lens at 50mm will be a 75mm equivalent on a DX sensor camera like the D7500. An FX camera (full frame) like the D750 or D850 will maintain the original focal length of an older film camera lens. A 300mm zoom lens will be a 450mm equivalent on this DX sensor. If the lens you want to use is older than AF style lenses, then the f-mount of a nikon lens will still attach but you will need to manual set focus and fstop.
